+Drive through the splendour of the Groot Drakenstein, its orchards, vineyards and tranquil parklands to a historic house that embodies the rich heritage of the Franschhoek and Groot Drakenstein Valleys.
Built in 1700s with its distinctive Cape-Dutch gables enhanced by sympathetic Hubert Baker renovations in 1907, Lekkerwijn invites its guests to stroll through the peacock adorned gardens, relax by the swimming pool and be charmed in its classically furnished rooms.
Lekkerwijn is an unforgettable base for the single traveller, couples, families or parties of up to 17 to explore the delights of the Franschhoek and Stellenbosch Valleys.
This historic family home offers an enchanting combination of bed and breakfast (single, double and twin) accommodation in the Main House or self-catering in the Coach House and Ballroom cottages to suit all situations, occasions and budgets.
Specially for children
Lekkerwijn is perfectly geared up for babies and children allowing parents to visit the local attractions or to dine in the fine valley restauarants whilst your children are having fun in the Homestead. In a separate wing of the main house we have a delightful children’s room and nursery with surrounding courtyard. There are toys and games and a qualified Nanny who will ensure your children are well cared for. We encourage your children to meet and feed our animals – the goats, pig, cats, rabbits and dog and to play in the extensive grounds. We will be happy to arrange baby sitting and child minding for anytime during your stay.
In-house entertainment
Relax by the swimming pool, which is a the perfect temperature at the end of a long day touring. Lekkerwijn has a wide range of it’s own fauna, the peacocks and guinea fowel will parade, particularly at any hint of being fed, and Pashmina (our Stafordshire Bull-terrier) will try and round them all up at the slightest opportunity. There are also two resident owls who breed regularly in addition to our other children’s animals. Wander round Lekkerwijn’s parklands and see some of the most stunning views of mountains in the wine country. The Muddle, our more relaxed sitting room, has a stereo and TV. Special wine tastings and dinners can be arranged at the house by prior arrangement. We also plan and host children’s parties.
