About

An integral part of the Franschoek and Groot Drakenstein Valleys, Lekkerwijn is not only of great architectural importance, but the house has been home and the retreat of some of most the influential agricultural, architectural and political figures of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries in South Africa.

The name Lekkerwijn means ‘good wine’ in Dutch. It remains one of the great historic homesteads in the Groot Drakenstein Valley and is close to Boschendal, Bien Donne, Meerlust, Delta and L’Ormarins.

An original Cape Dutch manor house with sympathetic Herbert Baker additions, Lekkerwijn architecturally embodies the practical style of the Huguenots who settled the valley in the 1600s and the elegance of the English from the turn of the last century.
